WHY MOBILE DATA CONSUMES MORE BATTERY? Did you know that wireless internet providers (like Smart, Globe) still use 2G (GPRS and EDGE)? This is unavoidable since "VoLTE" is still in its infant stage here in the Philippines VoLTE is accessing voice calls using LTE or 4G. Also, there are still a lot of phones in the market that still use 2G connection such as feature phones When we turn on mobile data and is set to "preferred 4G/LTE", it means you have access to 3G and 4G. This makes it more battery demanding because of the switching. Your phone is working twice as hard to maintain a connection. That's only for 3G and 4G settings. BUT here in the Philippines, it's 2G, 3G, and 4G. Plus 5G if your phone supports it already. So it's three frequencies for connections. Add the 5G and there are four. So it's not the type of signal that is eating ur battery juice but the "switching" part. That is why SOMETIMES it is best to use "3G Only" when signal is unstable on 4G or LTE Sadly, only few smartphones support "4G/LTE only" and not "4G preferred." Try installing FORCE LTE ONLY app https://play.google.com/store/apps/de... NOTE: this should only work if LTE signal is available and stable in your area Mobile Data is also battery intensive when traveling as it needs to constantly switch towers to keep you connected (handover) It is also battery intensive when signal is low. How WIFI Works WI-Fi means Wireless Fidelity WiFi works using a router that is connected to the server and your smartphone with WiFi chip inside. WiFi uses less battery because your phone only sticks to one signal frequency. Either 2.4GHz or 5GHz The only time it starts using more battery is when you get too far away and the signal becomes too weak. This will trigger the processing chip to work harder to keep the signal connected as much as possible. ------SUBSCRIBE------ WHAT TO DO? If you are traveling using mobile data and location tracking is important to you, just turn off WiFi to lessen the load on battery and processing power. It helps only a little but still helps. If traveling but using WiFi (bus w/ WiFi), and location tracking is NOT important to you, turn on AIRPLANE mode then turn on back WiFi only. If 4G/LTE signal is bad or unstable, try switching to 3G only. It's not as fast as 4G but it should be better considering LTE is unreliable at the moment If Mobile Data and WiFi signals are both available and reliable, choose WiFi instead. For WiFi users, sit or position your self close to your WiFi router for mobile data users, sit or position your self in an open area where signal can easily reach your phone 20% or lower battery can trigger performance and signal throttling, make sure to keep your battery charged or bring a powerbank when traveling. That's it. If you have more tips to add, feel free to say it in the comment section below.
