Electric Driving with Volvo EX30

Thinking about buying your first electric vehicle? The 2026 Volvo EX30 Cross Country was my very first all-electric driving experience, and I wanted to go beyond a typical vehicle review. During a week behind the wheel in British Columbia, I drove the EX30 through the Okanagan Valley, across the Coquihalla Highway, and into Metro Vancouver to discover what it's really like to live with a compact electric SUV. While the EX30 impressed me with its Scandinavian design, premium interior, Harman Kardon audio system, Google Built-in navigation, one-pedal driving, and enjoyable driving dynamics, the biggest lesson came from something I wasn't expecting—the charging experience. In this review, I share my real-world battery consumption through British Columbia's mountain passes, my experience with public charging infrastructure, multiple charging networks, charging apps, and what every first-time EV buyer should know before taking a long-distance road trip. If you're considering the Volvo EX30, or you're curious about making the switch to an electric vehicle, I hope my experience helps you make a more informed decision.
