In this video I will show you how to make cheese and onion pasties. These are delicious cheese and onion pasties and are only 56p each. A really substantial pastie at a really low cost. That is what baking on a budget is all about. Delicious food at a low cost. Here is a list of the ingredients and method. 400g / 14oz plain flour 0.20p 100g / 3.5oz Unsalted Butter 0.75p 100g / 3.5oz Lard 0.20p A little cold water 0.00 A pinch of salt 0.00 300g / 10.5oz Potato 0.27p 150g / 5.2oz Mature Cheddar 1.12 1 Onion 0.09p Salt and pepper 0.04p 1 Egg 0.13p Total cost 2.80 6 Pasties 0.46p each. Rub the butter and lard into the flour and add a pinch of salt. Add cold water until the pastry comes together. Cover in cling film and put in the fridge for 30 mins. Chop and lightly fry the onion. Boil, soften and mash the potatoes. Grate the cheese. Mix these three together and add salt and pepper to taste. Roll out the pastry and cut into 6 rounds. Divide the filling into 6. Place the filling on the pastry round and seal with egg wash. Egg wash the tops and bake in the oven. 180c / 320f / gas mark 3 for 30mins.
