Making tinned fish (Pilchards) and potato curry - served with soft Puthu - a traditional favourite!

Hi all I am back from Dullstroom and decided to show you a traditional favourite - tinfish and potato curry served with soft Puthu/Putu. Putu is a traditional South African dish made from mealie meal that was adopted into South African Indian cooking because instead of rice or flour, indentured labourers in South Africa were provided mealie meal derived from maize. This soon became a favourite very quickly and the competition for the browned mealie meal that caught on the bottom of the pot was fierce as it was the best part! Ingredients 5 small potatoes cubed small 1 can pilchards in tomato sauce 1/2 cup oil 1 sml onion grated 2 tomatoes grated 1 lvl tbs mixed masala (adjust to taste) 1 tsp hurdee (tumeric) powder 1 tsp garam masala 1 tsp dhania (coriander) and jeera (cumin) powder 1 tsp crushed ginger and garlic a handful of curry leaves anf fresh thyme for braising dhania (coriander) and spring onions to garnish For puthu 2 cups of water (boiling) 1 tsp fine salt 1 tsp margarine Serve hot with some carrot salad or chillies pickle on the side!
