The True Legend of a 12th Century Castle | Linhares da Beira

Here is part of the history of the castle: Linhares da Beira receive the "Foral" in 1169 from D. Afonso Henriques (first king of Portugal). The castle was only built at the end of the 12th century, in the reign of D. Sancho I (2nd King of Portugal), and renovated by D. Dinis (6th king of Portugal) in 1291. The strategic importance around Serra da Estrela was important for the country's defense because it protected the territories to the east from possible enemy attacks. Classified as a national monument on June 17, 1922, the castle is located on a granitic hill about 800 meters above sea level. It was an organic irregular plant (terrain adapted) with Romanesque and Gothic style.
