'Happy ending': Tennis star Matt Ebden returns to WA in time for son's birth

Professional tennis player Matthew Ebden says a "few miracles did turn out," allowing him to be present for the birth of his son in Western Australia. The Australian tennis star and his wife Kim Doig spoke to Sky News Australia - discussing his journey home after having competed in the 2022 Australian Open in Melbourne. Mr Ebden was a finalist in the 2022 Australian Open Men's Doubles - and was set to possibly miss the birth of his first child due to Western Australia's border policy. "It was a happy ending after all," Mr Ebden said. "We were lucky the border rules changed while I was in the middle of quarantine - the laws changed down to seven days. "So, I was free five or six days earlier than expected. "And Kim and the baby did really well - he stayed in till basically his due date ... and we had him on the 15th of February." "It's been really exciting."
