CERVELLETTO - Anatomia macroscopica e funzionale - Neuroanatomia

The cerebellum is a structure within the central nervous system, the largest after the forebrain (hence the name cerebellum, meaning "little brain"). It performs various functions: it controls muscle tone, and therefore body posture, thanks to connections with the spinal cord and the vestibular system of the ear, which controls balance; it participates, together with the cerebral cortex, in the planning, execution, and coordination of movements; it is involved in the memorization and learning of movements; it modulates auditory and visual sensory inputs; it modulates the autonomic nervous system (note: it is not part of the ANS); and it participates in the comprehension and production of language.
