Worthy to carry the name of Jesus even at the cost of their own dignity and safety. To them, the suffering was not a punishment. It was an honour. Take a moment and sit with that. These were men who loved Jesus so completely that prison could not shake them, beatings could not silence them, and threats could not move them. Their love for Him had grown so deep, so rooted, so unshakeable, that the only thing those chains managed to do was prove how free they truly were inside. And then there is Peter. The same Peter who, not long before, had denied Jesus three times by a fire in a courtyard. The same man who crumbled under the pressure of a servant girl's question. That Peter, standing in front of the very council that had the power to end his life, and not moving an inch. What changed? Jesus changed him. Not Peter's own willpower, not his own resolve, not his own determination to do better this time. Jesus had looked at a man who had failed publicly and catastrophically, and instead of defining him by that failure, He called him Cephas, the rock. He named him not by what he had done, but by what He was going to make him. This is what stopped me this morning. Our failures do not get to decide who we are. We may stumble in our walk with Jesus. We may deny Him in quiet moments, in moments of fear, in moments where the cost feels too high. But the story does not end there. Peter got back up. He kept walking. And the Jesus who called him a rock before he ever acted like one is the same Jesus walking with us today. Do not let your failure write your identity. Let God write it. Keep walking with Him. Keep getting back up. Because the One who named Peter knew exactly what He was making, and He knows exactly what He is making of you.
