Rise Again by William Eby

Program Notes Rise Again sets the text of Mahler’s second symphony titled “Resurrection”. Translated from the original poem in German, this text is not extravagant but quite simple. Therefore, I felt the music itself should not be lavish but carry a sense of humility to match the feelings evoked by the elegant text. Lastly, this piece was inspired by many different choral composers and because of this, it uses a wide variety of musical ideas. The most noteworthy of which is repetition. Repetition of rhythm, phrases, text, and space. However, even with such variety, the overall piece maintains its simplicity in a very real and sacred way. I hope you enjoy “Rise Again” "Rise again. Yes, rise. Will you my heart rise? Rise again. Yes, rise. Oh, believe you will rise again. With wings rise again." By Gustav Mahler Conducting; Dr. Kevin Dibble.
