1000 Islands Camping at Ivy Lea | Castle Cruise, Boldt Castle & Pinecone Ambush!
In this episode we travel to Ivy Lea Campground, located in the heart of Ontario’s beautiful 1000 Islands region along the St. Lawrence River. Operated by the St. Lawrence Parks Commission, Ivy Lea is uniquely situated beneath the Thousand Islands International Bridge, just minutes from Gananoque. With 143 campsites — about half including hydro (electric) and water hookups — this riverside campground offers easy access to boating, kayaking, sightseeing, and cross-border views into New York State. During our stay, we explore the campground layout, riverfront sites, dock facilities, beach area, and practical considerations for RVers. We also head out on a scenic cruise through the 1000 Islands with City Cruises to see two of the region’s most well-known landmarks — Boldt Castle and Singer Castle — and share what you can expect if you’re planning to add a boat tour to your trip. We’ll also spend some time in Gananoque, a historic St. Lawrence River town that serves as a gateway to the 1000 Islands and offers marinas, waterfront walking paths, museums, and local dining. If you’re considering RV camping in Eastern Ontario, planning a 1000 Islands road trip, or looking for a campground close to both water access and major attractions, we hope this review will help you decide whether Ivy Lea is the right fit for your next adventure.
