RVing to Newfoundland Ep 13 - Stunning Rose Blanche, Deer Lake, Port au Port & the Final Ferry Home.

RVing to Newfoundland and Labrador – Episode 13! After 52 incredible days on the road, we make our way to Deer Lake RV Park for a couple of days of rest and relaxation — though it turned out to be anything but quiet when an unexpected air raid siren went off during dinner! From there, we journey to Port au Port, where we visit the breathtaking Our Lady of Mercy Heritage Church, Newfoundland’s largest wooden structure. Built in 1925 by local fishermen, farmers, and miners, its ceiling is constructed like the hull of a schooner — in other words, an upside-down boat. We also stop by Secret Cove Brewery, transit Stephenville and the former Ernest Harmon U.S. Air Force Base, before continuing to Grand Codroy RV Camping Park — easily the nicest private campground we stayed at in Newfoundland. As our time on “The Rock” winds down, we visit the Rose Blanche Lighthouse, a beautifully restored granite beacon on Newfoundland’s rugged southwest coast. The lighthouse, and the small town that surrounds it, are postcard-perfect — and we were so glad we made the effort to visit. The next day, plans shifted when Marine Atlantic Ferries changed our sailing time, prompting an early start (3AM early) and one last night of boondocking in Wreckhouse, a famously windy stretch near Port aux Basques. It was a foggy July 17th when we boarded Marine Atlantic's ferry, the MV Highlanders, and sailed back to North Sydney Nova Scotia. There we spent a night at the Arm of Gold Campground – the closest RV Park to the ferry terminal.
