Today we are talking about rhythm, grooves and how simply strumming is limiting the potential of your playing. There are so many more ways to play rhythm ukulele beyond just strumming or fingerpicking. The idea of a chord is a collection of notes. The A7 chord is A C# E and G and you can play those those in any order you want, two at a time, just one all of them or even none of them by using corresponding scales to play rhythm over the chords. Over the first 4 bars we blend the A blues scale with the A7 chord by hammering on the C# note form the C note. After that we play a response idea with the A blues scale these two measures are repeated with slight modifications. Making it so the ear hears something familiar but is also rewarded. The second 4 bars have a nice triplet run that is based on the D7 then the D mixolydian is played over the D chord before returning to the first idea. Lastly the turnaround, my favorite part of the whole 12 bar. It outlines the E7 by hitting the b7th interval and then plays on the duality of minor and major at the same time as well by hammering into the major 3rd from the minor 3rd over both chords before the ascending line to the V7 chord.
