Cycling Japan’s Island Route… With Little Planning - Ep5

I’m a cyclist. My wife and daughters aren’t. But we set out as a family to ride Japan’s Shimanami Kaido — a legendary island-hopping bike route across the Seto Inland Sea — with very little planning. This 6-island, 7-bridge journey took us from Imabari to Onomichi, with incredible views, unexpected climbs, and a few moments of, “Wait… how far is this again?” We had a rough idea from some quick research — most places said it was around 43 miles. We knew it’d be a long day in the saddle, but we didn’t map the route or check the details. We just went for it… and somehow, even with all our missteps, that made it an unforgettable family experience.
