MVP Drill 2: The Delayed Blitz - points fighting
Michael "Venom" Page (MVP) Drill 2: The Delayed Blitz - Master Timing & Deception for Point Fighting & MMA! Take your striking to the next level of unpredictability with Michael "Venom" Page's (MVP) Drill 2: The Delayed Blitz! This advanced drill teaches you to use patience and deception to bait your opponent, then explode with the signature MVP blitz, creating openings that weren't there a moment before. Essential for both point fighting specialists and MMA strategists, the Delayed Blitz adds a crucial layer of timing and trickery to your offensive arsenal. While Drill 1 focuses on raw speed, the Delayed Blitz emphasizes the cerebral side of MVP's game. It's about setting traps, reading reactions, and striking when your opponent is most vulnerable or least expecting it. This makes you incredibly difficult to read and counter. MVP Drill 2: The Delayed Blitz Breakdown Concept: Instead of an immediate attack, use subtle movements or a momentary pause to draw a reaction or create a false sense of security, then launch your explosive linear blitz. This drill hones your timing, patience, and ability to exploit opening created by your feints. Execution (Solo or with Partner/Pads): Starting Stance & Distance: Begin in MVP's characteristic wide, hands-low stance, at a comfortable to slightly extended striking distance from your target. The "False" Signal (Feint/Probe): Initiate a movement that looks like the start of a blitz or a standard attack, but doesn't fully commit. Examples: A slight forward lean or rock. A half-step forward, then pausing. A non-committal lead hand feint (e.g., a "touch" jab that doesn't fully extend). A subtle shift of weight onto the lead leg. Read & Wait (The Delay): Observe your opponent's reaction. Did they flinch? Did they drop their guard slightly? Did they start to move away? Did they stand still? This is the "delay" phase where you process their response. Explosive Blitz (Exploitation): Based on their reaction (or non-reaction), launch your full, explosive linear blitz as in Drill 1. Drive off your rear foot, taking a long, fast step forward, and immediately unleash your precise, long-range strike (jab, cross, Teep, etc.). The timing should be just as they are reacting, hesitating, or resetting. Immediate Disengagement: As with all MVP blitzes, promptly disengage by stepping straight back, pivoting, or shuffling backward, returning to safety. MMA Adaptation Considerations: Takedown Threat During Delay: Be acutely aware that any hesitation can invite a takedown attempt. Your stance and balance must allow for quick sprawl or footwork adjustments even during the "delay" phase. Reaction to Opponent's Attack: If your feint draws an immediate attack from your opponent, you must be ready to defend (slip, block, or step out) before launching your blitz, or transition into a counter-blitz. Controlling the Pace: The Delayed Blitz is excellent for controlling the pace and rhythm of the fight, forcing your opponent to react to your cues rather than initiating their own offense. Focus Points & Benefits: Timing Mastery: Develop exceptional timing to strike at the precise moment of an opponent's vulnerability. Deception & Feinting: Enhance your ability to mislead opponents with subtle movements. Patience & Reading: Learn to wait for openings and react to your opponent's behaviour. Unpredictability: Become incredibly difficult to anticipate, as your attacks won't always follow a direct pattern. High-Percentage Striking: Land cleaner, harder shots because you've created a better opening. MMA Strategy: Integrate this into your game plan to frustrate grapplers and outmanoeuvre strikers.
