MVP Drill 3: Double Step Fake Blitz - points fighting
Michael "Venom" Page (MVP) Drill 3: Double Step Fake Blitz - Master Deception & Reaction in Point Fighting & MMA! Elevate your striking deception to an elite level with Michael "Venom" Page's (MVP) Drill 3: The Double Step Fake Blitz! This advanced manoeuvre is a cornerstone of MVP's perplexing style, teaching you to aggressively feint a full linear attack with two committed steps, baiting a strong defensive reaction from your opponent, which you then expertly exploit. Perfect for both point fighting finesses and MMA mind games, this drill turns your fakes into fight-winning opportunities! The Double Step Fake Blitz is about more than just a simple feint; it's a deep commitment to deception. You present a convincing threat, forcing your opponent to react defensively, only to withdraw or transition to a different attack, leaving them off-balance and vulnerable. MVP Drill 3: The Double Step Fake Blitz Breakdown Concept: Launch a highly convincing, multi-step fake blitz to draw a significant defensive response (e.g., pulling back, blocking, bracing) from your opponent. The key is to commit enough to the steps to make it look real, but not to the strike, allowing you to react to their defence. Execution (Solo or with Partner/Pads): Starting Stance & Distance: Begin in MVP's characteristic wide, hands-low stance, at long striking range from your target. You need enough space to execute two meaningful forward steps. First Step & Initial Commitment: Take a strong, deliberate lead step forward, leaning slightly into it. This should look like the very beginning of a committed blitz. Your eyes should be fixed on the target. Second Step & Full Fake: Immediately follow with a second committed step forward, driving your rear foot to cover significant ground. This mimics a full blitz approach. Your hands might twitch or slightly extend, but you do not throw a full, committed strike. The "Fake": This entire "double step" sequence is the fake. You are selling the blitz to your opponent. Read Opponent's Reaction: As you complete the second step of the fake, observe how your opponent reacts. Do they: Pull back? Cover up defensively? Plant their feet to brace for impact? Attempt to counter-strike prematurely? Exploit the Reaction (Withdraw or Transition): This is where the magic happens. Withdraw: If they pull back or cover, immediately snap back with a quick step or hop backward, exiting their counter range. This frustrates them and resets you to launch a real attack later. Transition to New Attack: If they brace, overcommit, or expose an opening, then follow with a real strike from your new position (e.g., a lightning-fast kick as they brace, a straight punch as they recover, or a pivot to create a new angle for a hook). MMA Specific: If they commit to a counter or a takedown entry, you're now positioned to sprawl, slip, or counter before they fully commit. MMA Adaptation Considerations: Takedown Threat: The double step means you're committing forward. Be ready to transition from the "fake" into a sprawl or takedown defence if your opponent shoots during your forward momentum. Clinch Opportunities: If the fake draws them in or off-balance, you can immediately transition into a clinch for control or a dirty boxing exchange. Feinting Level Changes: During the double step, subtly drop your level to suggest a takedown, further selling the fake and confusing your opponent, before snapping back up to strike. Focus Points & Benefits: Advanced Deception: Master creating false openings and intentions. Reading Reactions: Develop your ability to observe and instantly capitalize on opponent's defensive cues. Controlled Aggression: Learn to push forward convincingly without overcommitting your actual strike. Footwork Mastery: Enhance your ability to move in and out of range with precision and speed. Unpredictability: Become incredibly difficult to anticipate, as your movements don't always lead to a direct attack. Energy Conservation: Force your opponent to exert energy defensively without you having thrown a hard punch.
