Its total scale is a gross floor area of ​​299,000 square meters. The 6th floor alone, where the fire started, is equivalent in size to four soccer fields. This is more than double the size of the Icheon Deokpyeong logistics center, which incurred a loss of approximately 340 billion won in 2021. The speed at which the fire was extinguished was also slower. The products stacked high inside the facility acted as kindling, meaning it took 61 hours after the fire broke out for the main flames to be brought under control—the longest record for a fire at a domestic logistics center. It is projected that the damages Coupang will have to bear due to this fire will amount to hundreds of billions of won. This is because a key hub, where investments in automation equipment such as robots were concentrated, was destroyed, and the immediate severance of the logistics network has caused disruptions to deliveries in the surrounding area. Compensation for vendors is also a concern. The logistics center in question holds not only goods directly purchased by Coupang but also "Rocket Growth" volume, where individual sellers entrust Coupang with delivery. Following the fire, sellers have appealed that "all the inventory entrusted to Coupang has burned," prompting Coupang to state that it will "fully compensate for the losses." Although fire damage investigations and loss assessments typically take a long time, the company plans to pursue compensation proactively to minimize losses for sellers.
