The most interesting thing is how this land came to be: Tokyo produces a huge amount of garbage, which is incinerated, and the non-combustible waste and slag are dumped into Tokyo Bay. So the city is literally growing into the ocean. Right now, they're filling a new island—it will be ready in 3-4 years, and Tokyo is already thinking about where to put the waste next.
