Peugeot 404 Superluxe Break, 1968

This 404 Superluxe Break was first registered in France in the spring of 1968. It's a car from the first model year with an improved gearbox featuring a classic H-pattern shift with first gear at the top, a hydraulically operated clutch, and round gauges. In October 2025, a gentleman from Berlin drove the car 1,431 kilometers from Nantes to Berlin under its own power. This journey, including an overnight stay, went without a hitch. The engine purred contentedly, the coolant temperature remained stable within the normal range, and the engine consumed neither oil nor coolant. The buyer from Berlin was satisfied and brought the car to our workshop the very next day after his arrival for a thorough inspection. To everyone's surprise, it turned out that the first cylinder had hardly any compression. We could hardly believe it, as the engine always started immediately and seemed to run well. So we checked the compression several times, even with different compression testers, but the result was always the same. The second, third, and fourth cylinders are in excellent condition, but the first cylinder only has about one bar of compression. Therefore, an engine overhaul is necessary, and the owner has entrusted us with the vehicle for sale. Engine overhauls are part of our daily business, and we currently have three Peugeot and one Renault engine undergoing overhauls. If you purchase this vehicle, it is entirely up to you whether and by whom this work is carried out – we have ample experience in this area. You will then receive a very well-preserved Peugeot 404 Break in Superluxe trim with a freshly overhauled engine including new cylinder liners, new pistons, new crankshaft and connecting rod bearings, new valves, newly ground and nitrided rocker arms, and much more. A new clutch will also be installed during this process. Naturally, this work comes with a warranty. We simply ask for three months to complete the work, as the workshop first needs to finish the other engine overhauls mentioned above.
