That's right, many people have no idea that this powerful symbol of our history also existed here, and I want to tell you where it was located and what it represented in the history of Curitiba. I am Rogério Bealpino, and in this video I will take you on a real journey through time so we can understand how the pillory connected to the formation of our village in the 17th century and to the very beginning of the history of Paraná. During the video, I show paintings, documents, and historical references that help to understand the meaning of this monument, which, in addition to representing Portuguese justice and authority, also carries the painful memory of slavery in colonial Brazil. We will pass through places that are part of our historical heritage, such as the Curitiba Memorial, Tiradentes Square, and José Borges de Macedo Square, where the pillory is believed to have been installed. These are spaces full of meaning that help us understand the city with different eyes—with the perspective of heritage education. I strongly believe that knowing our own history is an act of citizenship.
