¿Qué hace Charli XCX en un drama de bajo presupuesto en Polonia? | Erupcja | Cruising en el cine

What's one of the world's biggest pop stars doing involved in a micro-budget film production in Warsaw? This week on "Cruising in Film," we analyze Eruption (Erupcja), the new film by director Pete Ohs, co-written by and starring Charli XCX herself. Far from the commercial spotlight and Hollywood mega-projects, Charli XCX deviates from the conventional celebrity path to immerse herself in a free-form drama. In this video, we analyze how the film fits into the tradition of the mumblecore genre (that cinema characterized by minimal budgets and small crews). We also dissect one of its most attractive and unusual formal resources within the genre: the inclusion of a Polish voice-over narrator with a dry, moralistic tone, which inevitably evokes the French New Wave and Éric Rohmer's Six Moral Tales. What do you think of Charli XCX's shift towards independent cinema? Have you noticed Rohmer's influence in contemporary films? Let me know in the comments.
