Kazuhiko Torishima, who became the acting editor-in-chief of Weekly Shonen Jump, was inexplicably unable to be promoted to editor-in-chief. So, he volunteered to launch V Jump. His strategy of mixing manga, games, and anime grew it into a hugely popular magazine that continues to this day. Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Yu-Gi-Oh!—it all started here! After graduating from Keio University, he joined Shueisha Inc. in 1976. He was in charge of hit works such as "Dr. Slump" (1980-84) and "DRAGON BALL" (1984-95) in "Weekly Shonen Jump." He is also known as the model for Dr. Mashirito in "Dr. Slump." He also deepened his friendship with Akira Sakuma and Yuji Horii through the magazine's "Jump Broadcasting Station" and "Famicom Shinken," and has been deeply involved with the game industry since its early days, including his involvement in the creation of "Dragon Quest" (1986). In 1993, he planned the media mix magazine "V Jump" which combined games and other media, and became its first editor-in-chief. In 1996, he returned to "Weekly Shonen Jump" and, as editor-in-chief, led the development of new talent and media mix projects. Hit works such as "Yu-Gi-Oh!" (1996-2004), "ONE PIECE" (1997-), and "NARUTO" (1999-2014) were born. Afterwards, his skills in media mix development were recognized, and he concurrently served as the head of the rights business division and the third editor-in-chief, overseeing the three Jump magazines: Weekly, Monthly, and V Jump. Subsequently, he served as a managing director of Shueisha, and is now an advisor to Hakusensha Co., Ltd. Appointed as an outside director of Bushiroad Co., Ltd. in December 2022 (current position).
