In order to perform the subtraction, we keep the same denominator in the answer and subtract the numerators. When we get the result we always try to simplify it into lowest terms. Subtracting fractions is done in the same way as fraction addition, the only difference being that we subtract the numerators instead of adding them in the case of adding fractions. When adding or subtracting fractions, the denominators of the fractions must be the same number.
