A spectacular ancient site in Luxor (ancient Thebes) on the sloping cliffs above the western floodplain. Until today 64 tombs of pharaohs from the New Kingdom period, when Egypt was one of the most powerful empires, have been discovered. Only 14 tombs, however, are open to the public. I have shown you 12 of them in my previous episodes. Today we will explore the last two royal tombs: (KV 47) belonging to Siptah - the pharaoh of the 19th dynasty, and (KV 2) owned by Ramesses IV - the third ruler of the 20th dynasty. We will also go back to the Valley of the Nobles and get inside the tomb of Amenemope (TT148), who was one of the most powerful men of his time. I included this tomb in this episode to show you that, even though Amenemope’s funerary structure must have cost a fortune, it can’t equal any of the royal tombs.
