In this video, I explore some of the most famous Ramayan places in Sri Lanka including Sigiriya (believed by some to be Ravana’s palace), Ashok Vatika at Seetha Eliya, and the mysterious Ravana Cave near Ella. This journey takes us deep into the locations many people connect with the story of Ravana’s Lanka from the Ramayan. Our journey begins at Sigiriya Rock Fortress, one of Sri Lanka’s most incredible historical sites. Surrounded by dense jungle and ancient ruins, this massive rock fortress rises dramatically from the land. Before reaching the main entrance, we cross a large water moat that once protected the fortress. According to local accounts, crocodiles were once kept here for security, making the fortress extremely difficult to enter. Inside the complex lies the famous Sigiriya Water Gardens, a remarkable example of ancient engineering. Underground channels collected rainwater and distributed it into ponds and fountains using natural pressure. Even today, some fountains still activate during the rainy season, showing how advanced the water systems were centuries ago. The real climb begins between two giant rock walls. Nearly 1200 steps lead to the summit of Sigiriya. Halfway up stands the famous Lion Gate, where a massive lion-shaped structure once guarded the entrance. Today only the giant stone paws remain. Many local traditions link this fortress with the legendary kingdom of Ravana’s Lanka described in the Ramayan. From the top of Sigiriya, the view stretches across miles of jungle and plains. The remains of platforms, water reservoirs, and foundations suggest this was once an extremely strategic royal complex built for control and protection.
