This decline in support comes amid controversy over a draft law granting exemptions from military service for ultra-Orthodox, or Haredi, Jews. This issue has sparked criticism from various parties, including the Israeli military, defense officials, and opposition parties. Some, including President Donald Trump, have questioned whether Netanyahu will still run for prime minister in the next election. The current term of the Israeli parliament expires in October. Elections are expected to be held in September or October. Amidst his declining popularity, Netanyahu has faced several rejections when attending public events. Most recently, Netanyahu was booed in the Knesset during a debate on a draft law exempting Haredi citizens from military service. According to Viory, opposition lawmakers shouted "Shame on you!" as Netanyahu entered the chamber. Some members even asked Netanyahu to leave the chamber.
