It is designed as a 4-lane (expandable to 8 lanes) controlled-access expressway passing through Haryana and Punjab. The expressway is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Katra, potentially to around 6 hours, and Delhi to Amritsar in about 4 hours. Key Features: Route: The expressway will pass through Delhi (Bahadurgarh border), Haryana, Punjab, and finally Katra in Jammu and Kashmir. Length: 670 km (420 miles). Lanes: 4-lane, expandable to 8 lanes. Speed Limit: 120 km/h (75 mph) for light motor vehicles. Interchanges: 11 interchanges, 14 ROBs, 11 flyovers, and 6 major bridges are planned. Amenities: The expressway will feature side amenities like trauma centers, hospitals, motels, hotels, EV charging stations, and fuel stations. Connectivity: It will connect with the Trans-Haryana Expressway in Haryana. Cost: Initially estimated at ₹25,000 crore, it has seen an escalation to ₹38,905 crore due to delays. Current Status: While some sections are operational, particularly in Haryana, the expressway is still under construction, with the Punjab section facing delays due to land acquisition issues. Completion: The expressway is now scheduled to be completed by 2026.
