TNA’s 1st Big TV Show Wasn’t What You Think | TNA x Best Damn Sports Show Period - Part 1
Wronged Sports: / @wrongedsports The Touchback: / @thetouchback While TNA had some moments in its early days, the promotion existed in a small bubble where many people didn’t even know it existed. The debut on Impact on Fox Sports Net in mid-2004 did raise its profile… …well as much as a TV show broadcast on Friday afternoons could. In reality, TNA hadn’t been introduced to the main stream American yet. It was the wrestling show with the weird ring maybe you stumbled across while watching TV during the summer because you weren’t in school. TNA wouldn’t get its first big break, its first big TV show until November 2004 when Fox Sports Net’s most popular show was willing to do a crossover event with the fledgling company dubbed the Bets Damn Wrestling Event Period. The Best Damn Sports Show Period was a revelation in its early years, a late-night sports talk show in a casual setting. By late 2004, the show had peaked and was trying all kinds of things to stay relevant after losing John Kruk and Michael Irvin to ESPN. The situation wasn’t bad by any means, but the show was relying on a lot of gimmicks to keep things fresh. So, in October 2004, a deal was struck with TNA to film a crossover event. It was actually part of an entire wrestling theme week that also included an interview where he may or may not have been promoting his suggestive 900 number. Getting on Best Damn Sports Show was a big deal for TNA, which never had TV exposure quite like this. Two, 90-minute episodes on a popular sports TV show shown during primetime, where it would be featured front and center… …sort featured front and center. This was a crossover, not a full-fledged TNA episode and The Best Damn Sports Show served as the crux of everything. It was their experience in the world of TNA, a brief sojourn on the future Planet Jarett, if you will. TNA’s 1st Big TV Show Wasn’t What You Think. But for better or worse, it was a spectacle, and in part one, we are looking at episode 1 of the TNA, Best Damn Sports Show Period crossover that aired on Fox Sports Net in 2004.
