VERTRIEBEN - Erinnerungen von Erika Dobrogajewski und Ilse Nold

Eyewitnesses Erika Dobrogajewski (born 1932) and Ilse Nold (born 1934) vividly recount their childhoods in Alt-Warthau near Bunzlau in Silesia, their lives in a large family, their school days, and the meaning of home before the war. The film also focuses on their dramatic escape in February 1945: Under extreme conditions, they and their family walked approximately 240 kilometers – a journey marked by cold, fear, and the impact of a devastated homeland. In 1957, they managed to leave the country via the Red Cross and were admitted to the Friedland border transit camp. They eventually found a new home in Büttelborn, where they and their families rebuilt their lives. This film is part of the YouTube series "Expellee History(ies)" – a project of the Federation of Expellees (BdV) Hesse State Association in cooperation with filmmaker Harald Kuntze. It is funded by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community.
