Eric Coates (1934)

C/U of composer Eric Coates looking out over the rooftops of London. Nice shots of London; arches of a bridge over the River Thames, commuters walking over a bridge. Commentator talks of Eric's 'Knightsbridge March' being well-known as the theme tune of 'In Town Tonight'. We then see Eric sitting at a desk, at work on a new composition called 'London Bridge'. Then we go over to a studio at St John's Wood, where an orchestra is preparing to play the piece for a broadcast and recording. Announcer John Snagge introduces Eric Coates who says he has written the music to try to convey a picture of the thousands of people who walk across London Bridge every day. Eric conducts the orchestra as they play this stirring music. Great shots of commuters on London Bridge and traffic moving across the bridge are intercut with shots of the orchestra.
