Episode 1331 Annie (Doris Speed) criticises Stan’s (Bernard Youens) poor window cleaning. Unimpressed by the streaks he’s left behind, she stands over him while he cleans the windows properly, Ken (Bill Roache), Janet (Judith Barker) and the twins head for a mystery day out. Ray (Neville Buswell) tells Len (Pater Adamson) that everyone at Weatherfield Plastics who could authorise payment is away at a meeting in Birmingham. Hilda (Jean Alexander) decides to rearrange the furniture before the next syndicate meeting. After making Stan move the settee across the room, she immediately changes her mind and orders him to move it back again. Alan (Alan Browning) reveals that Elsie (Pat Phoenix) has abandoned the syndicate while the other members begin questioning whether the dream of owning a Spanish villa is realistic. Rita (Barbara Knox) grows tired of Len’s bad mood and bluntly tells him to either do something about his problems or stop taking them out on everybody else. Ken, Janet and the twins enjoy their picnic at the park. Len visits solicitor Stephen Rigby (Kenneth Oxtoby) hoping to find a way out of paying the VAT bill. Rigby explains that, unfair as it seems, Customs and Excise are legally correct. Because the yard issued the invoice, they remain liable for the VAT whether Weatherfield Plastics have paid them or not. The syndicate collapses with only Bet (Julie Goodyear) in attendance at the latest meeting. Ken invites Janet to accompany him and the twins back to Scotland for a holiday. Delighted, Janet happily accepts.
