Caamaño trató de unificar al MPD, al PCD y al 14 de Junio en un solo partido
When Che Guevara died, “we realized we were wrong,” says Fidelio Despradel. Francisco Alberto Caamaño wanted to, and agreed with Fidelio Despradel, seek unity among the Dominican Communist Party, the June 14th Movement, and the Dominican Popular Movement, with the aim of resuming the revolutionary struggle that had begun in 1965. This agreement among the three main leftist parties was not possible because Caamaño had to go into exile in Europe and then went to Cuba to organize the guerrilla movement that he ended up leading in 1973 in Caracoles. Fidelio Despradel said that Caamaño asked him to write the document that would serve as the roadmap for the unity of the three leftist parties, to merge them into a single organization. And that document was written. And support bases were established in different parts of the country, but then Ernesto "Che" Guevara died in Bolivia, and on that same October 9, 1967, Fidelio Despradel said that the Dominican revolutionaries "became convinced that our guerrilla policy was wrong." In an extensive interview on AcentoTV, Fidelio Despradel revealed the details of Caamaño's revolutionary effort to unify Dominican leftists. The leader of the April 1865 revolution personally took charge of speaking with the leaders of the MPD, the PCD, and the June 14th Movement. Fidelio Despradel was interviewed by journalist Fausto Rosario Adames on the program "¿Y tú…qué dices?" (And you…what do you say?), which airs every evening on AcentoTV.
