Themelthorpe Curve – The Ingenious British Rail Solution to a Costly Problem

Before 1960, trains traveling to Norwich from places like Lenwade Concrete Works had to take a long, inefficient detour-wasting time and resources. To fix this, British Rail devised a clever solution: they rebuilt part of an old trackbed and constructed the Themelthorpe Curve, one of the tightest and longest radius curves in British railway history. In this video, I explore the forgotten Themelthorpe Curve, uncovering its history and purpose. Then, I follow the disused railway route toward Reepham, Cawston, and Aylsham, tracing what remains of this once-important railway link. 📌 Subscribe for more abandoned railway discoveries! 👍 Like & comment if you enjoy railway history!
