Any financial planner knows that it's impossible to compare such a mortgage with a fixed-rate mortgage, where monthly repayments are set in advance for the entire repayment period. Despite this, people still insist that variable interest rates are better. In this video, we explore the mechanisms behind the growing sentiment that variable interest rates are better. We'll explain the reasons behind this by touching on the benefits of variable interest rates for banks, housing companies, construction companies, real estate agents, and media outlets. However, please be aware that I'm not saying that variable interest rates are necessarily bad. A fixed interest rate isn't always the right answer. The important thing is to understand the characteristics of variable interest rates before making your choice. Are you choosing a variable interest rate simply because "everyone else is using a variable interest rate" or "interest rates are low right now"? Have you calculated how your repayments would change if interest rates rose? Do you understand the level of risk your household can bear? The sentiment that "variable interest rates are advantageous" doesn't arise naturally. There's always a structure to it. Being the majority opinion and being the right answer are two different things.
