I never truly understood it, nor did I ever imagine that the darkness from 80 years ago could feel so similar to the world we live in today. When I stood on the railway tracks leading to Birkenau, looking at the piles of old shoes, faded human hair, and the cold numbers engraved on the walls, I suddenly realized something— The distance between civilization and barbarism is only one step. In 2026, as we watch the smoke of war in Eastern Europe and the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East through our screens, I felt an overwhelming sense of suffocation. We like to believe humanity has learned and progressed, but when hatred is ignited and prejudice becomes normalized, that “train with no return” seems to have never truly stopped. This video documents my transformation—from someone who “didn’t understand history” to someone deeply shaken after stepping into a death camp.
