THE SUBCAMPS OF AUSCHWITZ — a network of slave labour, industry and death
Auschwitz was never just one place. Between 1942 and 1944, a network of more than 40 subcamps grew around the camp — at coal mines, steelworks, refineries, power plants, weapons factories and SS farms. In the summer of 1944 the complex held about 135,000 prisoners. An animated map shows how the network grew year by year; the film explains the economy of working human beings to death — and what remains.
