His work includes research into space farming with NASA to help develop regenerative life support systems. He and his students developed a dwarf variety of wheat that has been used in several studies on the Space Station, and he is currently working with NASA to study the use of fiber optics for growing plants in space. After 34-years Dr, Bugbee is still located at Utah State University, where he is the Director of the Crop Physiology Laboratory.
