"Developing Critical Thinking in the Face of Disinformation," part three of the lecture series presented by Gérald Bronner. Presented on April 1, 2025 Richelieu Amphitheater at the Sorbonne The era of fake news and "alternative truths" threatens what is most precious in human societies: the possibility of constructive debate. One of the possible solutions best identified by contemporary science to this worrying situation is for every citizen to refine their judgment in the face of this flood of information: developing their critical thinking. This is what this free seminar, open to all, at the Sorbonne, proposes, thanks to the support of the Descartes Foundation. Gérald Bronner is a Professor at the Sorbonne, a member of the Academy of Technologies and the National Academy of Medicine. A sociologist, he works in particular on collective beliefs and has published numerous works on these issues: Cognitive Apocalypse; The Origins…. His work has been recognized with eleven awards, including the Prix des Lumières, the Prix Aujourd'hui, and the prestigious EUROPEAN AMALFI PRIZE for Sociology and Social Science. His work has been translated into numerous languages. The Endowment Fund for the Creation of the Descartes Foundation is a non-partisan, independent, and European citizen initiative dedicated to the challenges of information and public debate in a democratic society.
