New technologies, led by artificial intelligence, pose an unprecedented challenge to the respect and preservation of reality. They have the power to distort, manipulate, and conceal this reality. They can also create an avatar of reality from scratch, or more precisely, impose a pure invention as real on information radars, or even in public debate. As such, they participate in a "technical era" that multiplies alternatives or subterfuges to reality (see the popularity of screens, video games, virtual relationships, social networks) and in a "political and democratic era" that post-truth has copiously infiltrated without any real resistance. In the crosshairs, it is the ability to construct ourselves individually and collectively that is in danger. Why do we aspire to challenge reality? What ills is this proliferation a symptom of? What mechanisms does it rely on? What dangers does it herald? Are all social groups affected? Are fiction and reality radically opposed, or do they rather nourish each other?
