The weather forecast across South Africa today is as follows: Conditions across central and north-eastern South Africa are expected to shift from scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued several impact-based warnings in light of this weather. Severe Thunderstorm Alert: Yellow Level 2 for residents can anticipate severe thunderstorms characterized by heavy downpours, excessive lightning, damaging winds, and the potential for large amounts of small hail. These conditions may lead to localized flooding, particularly on susceptible roads, in low-lying areas, and near bridges. There is also a risk of local damage to infrastructure and property, as well as injuries due to flying debris and minor vehicle accidents. Areas particularly at risk include Gauteng, much of North West and Free State, northern Northern Cape, the Highveld of Mpumalanga, and the western and northern regions of KwaZulu-Natal. In contrast, extremely high fire danger conditions are anticipated over the following municipalities: Kamiesberg, Hantam, Dawid Kruiper, and Ubuntu in the Northern Cape, as well as Matzikama and Swartland in the Western Cape. Residents in these areas are advised to exercise caution. Lastly, hot and humid weather will create extremely uncomfortable conditions over the extreme north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal. Stay hydrated and look for ways to cool down. Please stay safe and be prepared for changing weather conditions.
