Workshop 2: Structural Factors and Mental Health Disparities

The “Structural factors and MH Disparities” workshop is part of the co-learning activities developed by the Engaging the Academy Project. The goal of the " Structural factors and MH Disparities” workshop is to increase awareness about the structural and social factors that increase the risk for mental health conditions among historically marginalized graduate students (HMGPS). This workshop explains how the academic environment and social and structural factors contribute to barriers to mental health service use among HMGPS. Research findings from the Photovoice and Healing the Academy projects will inform the development of this workshop. This training focuses on the following topics: 1) Social determinants of health; 2) Health inequities; 3) Structural factors of higher education; 4) The academic professional lifer cycle; 5) Prevalence of mental health conditions among HMGSP; 6) Barriers to access mental health services in graduate and professional education; 7) Reimagining mental health and well-being in higher education.
