But the reason I decided to clean this property up had nothing to do with the abandoned house itself. It was because of the elderly woman living across the street. You could tell she had been struggling watching this place continue to get worse and worse over time. As I worked on the cleanup, something unexpected happened. A neighbor across the street started getting excited about the possibility of remodeling the abandoned home and giving it a second chance instead of watching it decay any further. Sometimes cleaning up a property does a lot more than just improve the way a neighborhood looks. Sometimes it changes the way people feel about where they live.
