Villingen (Villingen - Schwenningen) (D - BW) Die Glocken der Johanneskirche

This video presents the bells d1-f1-g1-h♭1 [re3 -fa3 -sol3 -si♭3] of St John city church in Villingen. After World War II, in 1949, the smallest bell [4] of today's peal was cast for St. John's Church. The bell was cast by the Grüninger foundry, which was located right next to St John Church until the 1930s [3:13], but after the war, the bells were manufactured in Neu-Ulm. After the Grüninger foundry went bankrupt, the peal could not be completed. This was only possible in 1953. Due to limited financial resources, the parish opted for three steel bells from the Bochumer Verein, which form one of the few steel peals in the region from the post-war period. Some time ago, the peal was renovated. During this process, an accident occurred in which the smallest bronze bell [4] was damaged. Welded last year at the Grassmayr bell foundry, it has been part of the peal again since the beginning of 2025. It holds its own remarkably well against the dynamically tuned and therefore very powerful-sounding steel bells.
