Hi everyone! thank you so much for tuning in to my Senior Recital! its a pleasure to have you! For this recital, I put together all kinds of music from all over the musical Cannon, and i brought some special guests to help dazzle all of you! This duet comes from one of Handel’s most popular operas, Giulio Cesare. This piece takes place right before intermission and follows Cornelia and Sesto, mother and son, as they say their goodbyes before being thrown into separate prisons by the tyrannical king of Egypt, Tolomeo. Here, Handel crafts a deeply emotional duet in a minor key, with the melodic lines of Cornelia and Sesto intertwining and imitating each other, reflecting their shared grief.
