SLIDERS Retro REVIEW #38 | Episode 3x20 | "The Last of Eden"
Retro Review #38: “Sewer Mutants and a Baby” FANDOM ENTANGLEMENT is back with another retro review of the 90s sci-fi series SLIDERS. This time, we’re taking a look at Season 3, Episode 20, “The Last of Eden” (original airdate: March 28, 1997 on Fox). Wade and Rembrandt recall their slide to a world plagued by earthquakes and populated by primitive people. Wade falls into a deep chasm and Quinn goes to rescue her, while Rembrandt learns of Arturo’s illness. This episode was written by Josef Anderson and directed by Allan Eastman. Co-hosts Mike Bloxam & Damon Sugameli welcome back Stacie Wilcox, co-host of the KORMAN PRODUCTIONS DEEP DIVE TV PODCAST with Dave Korman and LIFEBOAT: A Timeless Rewatch with Albie Burdge. In this episode, we visit “Wells-Niven” World, a world that steals—sorry, borrows—elements from The Time Machine by H.G. Wells and Ringworld by Larry Niven, and seemingly blends them together into a weird narrative that never comes together in any cohesive or meaningful way. Sprinkle in a dash of Willy Wonka (?), and…well, it still doesn’t make a lot of sense. In fact, the only truly memorable scene is between Arturo and Rembrandt concerning the former’s incurable illness. Which, incidentally, also seems rather pointless considering this entire story is framed as a flashback to explain Arturo’s presence in an episode that originally aired after John Rhys-Davies’ departure…and which had absolutely nothing to do with said illness. Wow, this episode is almost as bad as the last one. Anyway, hope you enjoy our analysis and review! And be sure to enjoy some of that magic fruit along the way!
