SLIDERS Retro REVIEW #39 | Episode 3x16 | "The Exodus, Part 1"
Retro Review #39: “Under a Raging Daltrey” FANDOM ENTANGLEMENT is back with another retro review of the 90s sci-fi series SLIDERS. And we’ve finally arrived at the pivotal 2-part episode, “The Exodus,” beginning with Part 1, which originally aired February 21, 1997 on Fox. Things don’t look good for the Sliders when they slide to a world that’s about to be eradicated by a rogue pulsar. Soon, they discover that this world has been developing sliding technology and they pool their resources with the U.S. government in a race to escape to a parallel Earth. This episode’s teleplay was by executive producers Tony Blake & Paul Jackson from a story by the Professor himself, John Rhys-Davies, and was directed by Jim Charleston. Co-hosts Damon Sugameli & Mike Bloxam are once again joined by the co-hosts of TREKSPLORATION, Christopher DeFilippis and— Hold on, what was that explosion? “We interrupt this podcast for a message from the Interdimensional Emergency Alert System. This is not a drill! The pulsars are coming, and the radiation will destroy any living being within its blast radius! Find shelter underground and you may survive. WARNING: If you attempt to record or send a transmission, it may come in garbled and/or visibly glitched. We cannot guarantee that your incoming visual transmission will come in clearly. You have been warned.” Okay— Well, anyway, come on and join together with the band as we attempt to break down the plot of this first half of Sliders’ epic two-parter, quite possibly the greatest two-parter of our g-g-generation! Chris gives us his signature episode recap as only he can, and we take a look at the introduction of Sliders’ newest characters. First up: the official introduction of Kari Wuhrer as Captain Maggie Beckett! And who’s next? Colonel Rickman, played by none other than rock legend Roger Daltrey of The Who! Yes, it’s an American officer with a British accent, but who cares? 🙄 It’s another tricky day for our team as they face their greatest threat yet. Also, Rembrandt befriends a young kid who is on the verge of entering a teenage wasteland unless he intervenes. And Quinn is Maggie’s guide on the inter-dimensional magic bus as they take a tour through the multiverse to find a new home for her people. But did Quinn really find Earth Prime this time? We won’t get fooled again, we promise! Can you expect an honest analysis and review from us? You better you bet! And, side-note: if you didn’t catch all of the song references in this description, then we suggest you further your music history education at the School of Rock. We still have another part to get through, so there’s more coming. Sigh…we hope we die before we get old… If you thought Part 1 was a decent episode, just wait. The discussion will continue with Part 2 (and Albie…at least, that’s the plan). Everything lies just beyond an eminence front… ———— DISCLAIMER: Due to some technical difficulties, Damon’s video track experienced significant freezing and lagging. This episode has been edited to exclude his video unless absolutely necessary. The audio is unaffected. However, a special intro and some mild glitching effects have been added to complement these visual errors. Viewers who are sensitive to light or may experience epileptic seizures should proceed with caution. The effects have been modified to be as minimal as possible and only appear briefly at the beginning and end. They are not consistent throughout the entire video.
