Playing based on a vaguely heard recording without properly reading the score – this is a common occurrence in wind bands, I think. And that recording is often from some obscure high school or university... Instead, listen to performances by top-tier orchestras! Everyone! If we can't break free from this, Japanese wind bands will continue to be isolated and unique beyond the Reiwa era. Choosing pieces far beyond our time constraints and skill level – this is another common occurrence in Japanese competitions. From my experience and knowledge, Europe is the complete opposite; they pursue true music without focusing solely on skill. In other words, why choose such a difficult piece if you can't play it properly? This is something many Asians and Japanese, including myself, are told in Germany. However, the misconception that you can't get a good evaluation at higher competitions without playing difficult pieces seems to be deeply rooted in Japan, and I have absolutely no intention or energy to dwell on that, so we just have to do it. He is also the music director of the Hokkaido Tokachi Shimizu Wind Orchestra. He conducts guest conductor duties, judges competitions, provides school instruction, and gives private lessons both domestically and internationally. Wind band instruction experience: He has instructed over 100 junior high, high school, and university schools nationwide. He has also instructed wind bands and high schools in Taiwan, and given private and group lessons in China and South Korea.
