Bwlch Mountain Road - South Wales... on my Honda Deauville. 21st May 2023

What a fantastic road for Motorcyclists..... just south of the Brecon Beacons National Park. ( now called the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park ) I visited yesterday (Sunday 21st May 2023). Starting in Bromsgrove .. through Hereford and Abergavenny.. skirting round Merthyr Tydfil. Then heading South... as shown on my Map. Section "A" on my map has some great views and hairpin bends... and a 50mph speed limit. Continuing South through the village of Treorchy you double back and enter the Bwlch Mountain Road... "B" on my map... WOW what a fantastic road... rising quickly via a series of hairpin bends to magnificent views at the summit. After a short stop I turned right onto the A4107 towards Abergwynfi... equally bendy with great views. I continued on the Porthcawl.... had lunch then rode 3.5 hours back home. 265 mile round trip on my superb Honda NT700V Deauville. The Bwlch-Y-Clawdd is the main mountain road linking Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot with the Rhondda Valleys. The road sits at around 1,476ft above sea level. The two mountain sections feature numerous hairpin bends, and the section along the Bwlch-y-Clawdd is sited on top of a perfect geological fault. It was constructed between the years of 1926 and 1928 after concerns were raised over travel difficulties and post-World War One employment issues. As well as helping connect the south Wales valleys the Bwlch Mountain Road is enjoyed by motorists and cyclists, offering beautiful panoramic views of Cwmparc and surrounding villages.
