The IUCN National Committee UK and its role in connecting education and conservation.
UCN is the world’s largest network of environmental experts and is a complex organisation with an important mission. In the first half of this presentation, Chris will provide an introductory overview of IUCN’s structure and purpose, before focusing on aspects of its work in Education and Communication for which it has many tools and opportunities for engagement. These will include the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication, the IUCN Academy, relevant Resolutions and strategic guidance at a global level. Charlotte will then develop these ideas in a UK context, demonstrating the applicability of IUCN products and guidance through the work of the IUCN National Committee UK Working Group on Education and Communication and its place in the education sector’s landscape. Chris Mahon is the Chief Executive at the IUCN National Committee UK and has worked with IUCN since 2007. He chairs several networks in the IUCN framework and is a member of the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication and the World Commission on Protected Areas. Charlotte is the Director of Conservation Education at Chester Zoo, Chair of the IUCN UK Education and Communication Working Group and member of the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication and the Species Survival Commission. She has a broad range of interests relevant to conservation education and engagement, particularly nature connection, behaviour change, inclusion, green skills and youth voice.
