Park na Błoniach Janowskich

After many years of preparation, negotiations, and funding efforts, the Błonia Janowskie meadows in Rumia will finally see their long-awaited transformation. On Thursday, July 2nd, the city signed an agreement with the contractor, meaning the project is entering the implementation phase. Construction of a new park, approximately the size of three full-size football pitches, will begin this month. Work will begin with local elevation and landscaping, preparing it for new planting. As part of the project, a permeable path over a kilometer long will be constructed, and the area will be planted with a variety of plants. Planting is planned for at least 155 large trees—including maples, oaks, linden trees, horse chestnut trees, and birches—as well as approximately 500 coniferous shrubs, such as mountain pine, Scots pine, and juniper. Nearly 7,300 deciduous shrubs will also be planted in the park, including white dogwoods, common hornbeams, hydrangeas, mock-oranges, forsythias, roses, and guelder roses. The plantings will be complemented by over 5,300 perennials, including peonies, rudbeckias, sages, and coneflowers, as well as approximately 6,500 bulbous plants—tulips, daffodils, and ornamental alliums. Landscape features will also be installed, including park lighting, benches, waste bins, and a gazebo. The project will take approximately six months to complete, covering an area of approximately 20,000 m². Initially, the entire area will be fenced and temporarily closed to public use. Completion of the work and opening of the area to the public is planned for spring 2027.
