From director Naomi Kawase's latest film, "Illusions That Exist," comes the fateful encounter and parting of two people who meet on the "island of the gods," Yakushima. Edited and produced by director Naomi Kawase herself, with music by Kimiki Nakano, and featuring the theme song "Yakushima's Illusion," a special video has been released! This exquisite human drama explores the motifs of "shapes of love" and "connections of life," overlapping with the realities of Japan's missing persons and heart transplants. The protagonist, Corrie, is played by Luxembourg-born Vicky Krieps, known for her roles in films such as "Phantom Thread" (2017) and "The Girl in the Spider's Web" (2018). While portraying an intelligent, mature woman, she also occasionally displays the innocence and vulnerability of a young girl. She gives her all to portray the delicate emotional turmoil she faces as she confronts loneliness, and the boundless kindness that results from it. The mysterious young man Jin, whom Cory meets fatefully on Yakushima, is played by Kanichiro, who has appeared in a string of films, including "Bomb" and "There You Are" (25), and is also appearing in the NHK morning drama "Bakebake." Director Naomi Kawase has released a special video connecting scenes from the film, set to the theme song "Yakushima's Illusion" by Nakano Kimiki, who also composed the film's music. The video captures Cory and Jin's meetings and partings, joy and sadness, and a variety of emotions, and also features some never-before-seen footage not included in the theatrical release. Corry (Vicky Krieps), who came to Japan from France, works as a transplant coordinator at the Kobe Organ Transplant Medical Center, promoting pediatric transplants. However, she struggles with Japan's different views on life and death and ethics from those in Western Europe. Cory met the mysterious young man Jin (Kanichiro) on Yakushima a year ago, and the two were drawn to each other as they spent time together in the magnificent natural scenery. However, when Jin begins living with Cory, he doesn't have a permanent job and gives vague answers when Cory asks him about his family. Their feelings and time gradually drift apart, and Jin suddenly disappears from Cory's sight... "Were you really there?" Cory asks, breaking down in tears... What is the "real thing" that exists in the hearts of Cory and Jin...? "A Certain Magical Index" will be released on February 6, 2026.
